The Brooklyn Laboratory Charter Schools (LAB) were designed to meet the high needs of urban students. They offer various educational options, including athletics, extra-curricular clubs, and technological pursuits. The teachers use a combined curriculum with enrichment classes, traditional academics, and personalized tutoring to meet students' needs. This makes LAB a superior option for goal-oriented scholars currently underserved by their traditional school district. LAB was founded in 2014 as a middle school serving youth up to 8th grade. After winning a $10 million grant from Emerson Collective in a nationwide contest, the Apple, Inc. affiliated organization opened up its high school wing in 2017. This allows the institution to see students through receiving their diplomas after graduation. Known better locally as the LAB, this innovative school network is situated in the heart of the Brooklyn Tech Triangle - one of the most rapidly gentrifying areas in New York City. Serving around 600 students enrolled annually between the two programs, their scholars are predominantly youth of color from economically distressed households. The LAB is an institution that prepares scholars for success in college and professional life. Their digital literacy and leadership skills are unrivaled, as well as their commitment to meeting the community's needs. The reviews from students and educators support this goal, making the LAB one of the most sought-after institutions in the area.
